WoW Forever Leatherworking Leveling Guide 1–300

· recipe data from the WoW Forever beta client 1.60.1.70170

Leatherworking pairs with Skinning: every beast you kill while leveling is leather for this route, and the two together cost almost nothing until the Rugged Leather at the top. Armor kits carry a lot of the early skill because they take a single piece of leather each.

Work in progress until launch on 4 November. Built from the beta client's recipe data, so numbers can still change. How this guide is made

About this guide

Like Tailoring and Blacksmithing, Forever moved leatherworking down the skill curve. Nearly 200 recipes turn yellow earlier than in Classic, almost all of them by 25 points, and the trainers moved with them. This route follows the beta client's own colours.

WoW Forever launches on 4 November 2026, so this guide is a work in progress. Skill colours, reagents and craft counts come from the beta client, so they are what Forever ships today but can still change, and the beta stops short of Artisan, so the top of the route is computed rather than played. Craft counts include the extra crafts a recipe needs once it turns yellow. Trainer locations and learn levels are Classic's, adjusted where Forever moved a recipe. We rebuild the guide whenever the client changes.

Leatherworking trainers

Any trainer starts you off and most teach Journeyman. Expert and Artisan are taught by fewer, marked in your faction's colour. Hover a coordinate for its TomTom command.

198 leatherworking recipes turn yellow earlier in Forever than they did in Classic, most of them 25 points earlier. A Classic route is therefore wrong for Forever even where the recipes are the same: it keeps you on a recipe after it has stopped giving points. 2 recipes also take different reagents.

Leatherworking camp objects

Camping is new in Forever: a campfire built by a cook, with room for objects each profession makes. Anyone resting at the camp gets their effects.

  • Camp Tent from skill 20

Rested experience up to 5% of a level

  • Tanning Rack from skill 140

    Makes certain Leatherworking reagents

  • Sewing Machine from skill 300

Needed for the most advanced Leatherworking recipes

What Forever changed in leatherworking

The skill compression is the same story as in Tailoring and Blacksmithing: a Classic guide's numbers are about 25 points too high. The other large change is what Forever added on top. More than 270 leatherworking recipes are new in the beta client, the most of any profession, and most of them are matched sets sold at the trade camps for Merchant's Favor: Mender's, Prowler's, Skirmisher's, Skulker's, Skycaller's, Stalker's and Warden's leather and mail, each in several slots. They take Pristine Hide and Pristine Leather, which are new too.

Leatherworkers also build the most popular camp object: the Camp Tent, from skill 20, which gives everyone resting at the camp rested experience. Later they can put out a Tanning Rack and, at 300, a Sewing Machine.

Frequently asked questions

How do you level leatherworking 1–300 in WoW Forever?

Light Armor Kits to 45, Embossed Leather Gloves to 70, Fine Leather Belts to 85, Cured Medium Hides and Dark Leather to 105, Hillman's Shoulders to 130, Heavy Armor Kits to 150, Barbaric Shoulders and Guardian Gloves to 185, Thick Armor Kits and Nightscape gear to 235, then Wicked Leather Gauntlets, Frostsaber Boots and Runic Leather Headbands to 300.

Should I level skinning with leatherworking?

Yes. Leatherworking uses nothing but leather and hides until the top, and skinning turns every beast you kill into materials.

Is the Classic leatherworking guide right for WoW Forever?

No. Forever moved nearly 200 leatherworking recipes about 25 points earlier, so a Classic guide keeps you on recipes that have stopped giving points.

Where do you learn Artisan leatherworking?

At skill 200 and level 35, from Drakk Stonehand at Aerie Peak or Caryssia Moonhunter at Feathermoon Stronghold for the Alliance, or Hahrana Ironhide at Camp Mojache, Feralas, for the Horde.

What does the leatherworking camp object do?

The Camp Tent, from skill 20, gives everyone resting at the camp rested experience, up to 5% of a level. Leatherworkers can also build a Tanning Rack and, at 300, a Sewing Machine.

How many leatherworking recipes are new in WoW Forever?

More than 270 in the beta client, the most of any profession, most of them armor sets sold for Merchant's Favor at the trade camps.

What is the most expensive part of leveling leatherworking?

The last 65 points. Every recipe from 235 up uses Rugged Leather, about 800 of it on this route, nearly 600 in the final step alone.
