The hidden half of every profession quote
When two blacksmithing listings differ by a factor of three, the difference is almost never the labour. It is whether the seller is supplying several hundred stacks of ore. Buying materials separately lets you see that number instead of inferring it, and frequently lets you beat it — a seller who specialises in bulk gathering is more efficient at it than a seller whose main business is levelling professions. Comparing a materials order against the difference between two profession quotes is the single most useful price check in this category.
Why materials are expensive in Forever specifically
There is no flying anywhere in WoW Forever and no level scaling. Every gathering route is walked or ridden, through zones where the mobs are a real obstacle rather than scenery. That makes bulk materials genuinely labour-intensive in a way they are not in games with flying, and it is the structural reason mats packs are a viable standalone service here. It also means launch week — from 4 November 2026 — is when prices are highest and most volatile, because demand arrives before anyone's gathering routes do.
Agreeing quantity and handover
Materials orders are among the easiest to scope and the easiest to get wrong through vagueness. Agree the exact quantity in stacks, the exact item, and how it will be handed over — mailed, traded face to face, or through a guild bank. Those are the three delivery methods sellers use, and they have different failure modes: mail has limits and delays, face to face needs you both online. Write it in the order thread, because escrow releases when you confirm receipt, and 'received' needs to mean something specific.
