Making and farming gold in WoW Forever
A brand-new economy on 4 November 2026, no flying, and a raid wave five weeks later. The gold-making opportunities in Forever are shaped almost entirely by those three facts.
Fact-checked against Blizzard's published details. .
A fresh economy behaves predictably
WoW Forever launches on 4 November 2026 with no existing economy at all. That produces a pattern anyone who has played a fresh server will recognise: raw materials are scarce and expensive in the first fortnight because demand arrives before supply, low-tier goods collapse in price once everybody levelling has flooded them, and finished goods hold value longer than their inputs.
The practical implication is that timing matters more than technique in the first month. The same gathering route is worth several times more in week one than in week six, and the same crafted item is worth more in week six than in week one.
No WoW Token, so gold has to be earned
Blizzard has said WoW Forever launches without the WoW Token and has no plans to add one. There is therefore no sanctioned way to turn money into gold, and no token price quietly setting what an hour of farming is worth. Every piece of gold in the economy was looted, quested, vendored or traded for, and the early weeks will be short of it: a fresh character's first real expense, its mount, arrives long before most players have a reliable income.
No flying changes the arithmetic
WoW Forever has no flying at any level. Every gathering circuit is a ground route, through zones where the mobs are an obstacle rather than scenery, and the fast aerial loops that made gathering trivial in later expansions simply do not exist.
That keeps gathering genuinely labour-intensive, which keeps raw material prices structurally higher than players used to modern WoW expect. It also makes route knowledge worth something: two characters with the same profession and the same hours will not earn the same amount.
What earns, and when
| Source | Best window | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Mining | First fortnight | Ore sells at every tier; crafting demand is immediate |
| Herbalism | From 9 December | Flask and elixir demand steps up permanently when raids open |
| Skinning | After the launch rush | Low tiers collapse while everyone levels; value is at the top |
| Tailoring | Throughout | Bags sell continuously to every class and level |
| Alchemy | From 9 December | Consumables are used up rather than kept |
| Enchanting | Mid-term | Repeat demand, but expensive to level into |
Engineering is the exception worth naming: it does not pay for itself at any point and is taken for utility. Anyone telling you otherwise is describing a different game.
The 9 December step change
The first raid wave opens on 9 December 2026, and it is the single most predictable event in Forever's economy. Raiding converts a set of goods from occasional purchases into weekly ones: flasks, elixirs, potions, food, and the materials behind them. Demand for those does not spike and settle, it steps up and stays.
Anyone planning to earn rather than spend should be positioned for that before it happens — herbalism and alchemy levelled in November rather than December, materials stockpiled while raw prices are still tracking levelling demand rather than raid demand.
A note on buying gold
This site does have a gold marketplace, and we would rather be straightforward about it than pretend a gold-making guide exists in isolation. Buying in-game gold for real money is against Blizzard's terms of service, and the account risk falls on the buyer. Blizzard has been explicit about that for Forever: a September 2026 staff post says it will increasingly act against buyers' accounts as well as sellers', removing the gold and, where it chooses, closing the account. Escrow protects a payment; it does not protect an account.
Everything on this page is a way to have gold without that risk. It is slower. It is also the only version where the worst case is a wasted evening rather than a lost character.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to make gold in WoW Forever?
In the first fortnight after the 4 November 2026 launch, gathering — mining especially, because ore sells at every tier. From 9 December, alchemy and herbalism, because raiding makes consumables recurring.
Why is gathering more profitable than in modern WoW?
Because there is no flying at any level. Every route is a ground route through hostile zones, which keeps supply constrained and prices structurally higher.
When do material prices peak?
In the first two weeks after launch, when demand arrives before anyone's gathering has caught up. Low-tier goods then collapse as levelling players flood them.
What changes on 9 December?
Raids open, and consumables switch from occasional purchases to weekly ones. It is the most predictable demand step in Forever's economy.
Is there a WoW Token in WoW Forever?
No. Blizzard has said Forever launches with no WoW Token and no paid character boost, and that it has no plans for either.
Is buying gold safe?
No. It breaches Blizzard's terms of service and the account risk is the buyer's. Blizzard has said it will increasingly act against buyers' accounts in Forever, up to closing them. Escrow protects a payment, not an account.
