WoW Forever Fishing Leveling Guide 1–300

· recipe data from the WoW Forever beta client 1.60.1.70170

Fishing is a secondary profession, so it costs no primary slot, and it is the other half of Cooking: the top of the cooking route is fish, and fish dishes are the buff food raiders buy every week.

Work in progress until launch on 4 November. Built from the beta client's recipe data, so numbers can still change. How this guide is made

Fishing route by skill

  1. 1–55: any capital city or starting zone. Train Journeyman at 50.
  2. 55–130: Ashenvale, Duskwood, Hillsbrad, Redridge, Stonetalon or the Wetlands. Buy the Expert book in Booty Bay at 125.
  3. 130–205: Stranglethorn Vale is the classic choice, with Booty Bay next door; Desolace, Dustwallow, Arathi and the Swamp of Sorrows work too.
  4. 205–300: Tanaris, Feralas, Azshara, the Hinterlands or Un'Goro. Do Nat Pagle's quest at 225.
  5. 330-level waters (the Burning Steppes, the Eastern Plaguelands, Winterspring, Silithus) still lose fish at 300 without a lure; use one there.

About this guide

Fishing skill rises with catches, more slowly the higher you go. Every zone has its own fishing level: below it, many casts end with the fish getting away; at or above it, catches land reliably. So the route is simply to fish the lowest zone that no longer loses fish, and move up as you go. Lures help: a Shiny Bauble adds 25 skill for ten minutes, Nightcrawlers 50, Bright Baubles 75 and an engineer's Aquadynamic Fish Attractor 100. Forever adds two of its own, "Secret" Bait and a Wide-Brimmed Fishing Hat, each worth 25.

WoW Forever launches on 4 November 2026, so this guide is a work in progress. Skill colours, reagents and craft counts come from the beta client, so they are what Forever ships today but can still change, and the beta stops short of Artisan, so the top of the route is computed rather than played. Craft counts include the extra crafts a recipe needs once it turns yellow. Trainer locations and learn levels are Classic's, adjusted where Forever moved a recipe. We rebuild the guide whenever the client changes.

Where to fish at every skill

Each zone has a minimum fishing skill. Below it, most of your catches get away; at or above it, every cast lands something. You still gain skill from catches anywhere, so fish the lowest zone you no longer lose fish in.

Fishing trainers

Any trainer starts you off and most teach Journeyman. Expert and Artisan are taught by fewer, marked in your faction's colour. Hover a coordinate for its TomTom command.

  • Expert Fishing is a book. Expert Fishing – The Bass and You costs 1g from Old Man Heming on the docks of Booty Bay, Stranglethorn Vale, to both factions. It needs fishing 125 and character level 20.
  • Artisan Fishing is Nat Pagle's quest. At skill 225 and level 35, Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh asks for four rare fish from around the world in Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme. Classic's server data also has Katoom the Angler at Revantusk Village, Hinterlands, teaching it to the Horde.

Fishing camp objects

Camping is new in Forever: a campfire built by a cook, with room for objects each profession makes. Anyone resting at the camp gets their effects.

  • Fish Bowl from skill 20

    8% to all stats

  • Fishing Rack from skill 140

Uncommon fish for 1 hr and Fishing Skill lures

  • Fishing Hut from skill 300

Rare fish for 1 hr and Fishing Skill lures

Fishing at camp

Anglers build a Fish Bowl at camp from skill 20, which gives everyone resting there 8% to all stats, a stand-in for Blessing of Kings. At 140 the Fishing Rack makes uncommon fish bite for an hour and adds fishing skill lures, and at 300 the Fishing Hut does the same for rare fish.

Frequently asked questions

Where do you level fishing in WoW Forever?

Any city or starting zone to 55, Ashenvale, Duskwood or the Wetlands to 130, Stranglethorn Vale to 205, then Tanaris, Feralas or Azshara to 300.

How do you get Expert fishing?

Buy Expert Fishing – The Bass and You from Old Man Heming in Booty Bay for 1g, at fishing 125 and character level 20.

How do you get Artisan fishing?

Complete Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme for Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh at skill 225 and level 35.

Do fishing lures help you level?

They stop fish getting away in waters above your skill, which is what slows leveling. They do not change how fast catches raise your skill.

Does fishing use a profession slot?

No. It is a secondary profession, like Cooking and First Aid.

What does the fishing camp object do?

The Fish Bowl, from skill 20, gives everyone resting at the camp 8% to all stats. The Fishing Rack at 140 and the Fishing Hut at 300 bring uncommon and then rare fish for an hour.
