WoW Forever Skinning Leveling Guide 1–300

· recipe data from the WoW Forever beta client 1.60.1.70170

Skinning is the cheapest profession to level: it costs nothing but the knife and the time to skin what you were going to kill anyway. Most players level it to 300 without trying, simply by skinning everything on the way to level 60.

Work in progress until launch on 4 November. Built from the beta client's recipe data, so numbers can still change. How this guide is made

Skinning route by skill

  1. 1–100, beasts up to level 20: your starting zone, then the Barrens (by far the most beasts in the data) or Darkshore, Westfall and Loch Modan. Train Journeyman at 50.
  2. 100–150, levels 21 to 30: Ashenvale, the Wetlands, Thousand Needles and Hillsbrad. Train Expert at 125.
  3. 150–200, levels 31 to 40: Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh, Stranglethorn Vale and the Badlands. Train Artisan at 200, which needs character level 35.
  4. 200–250, levels 41 to 50: Tanaris has the most by a distance, then Feralas, the Hinterlands and Azshara.
  5. 250–300, levels 51 to 60: Silithus, Winterspring, Azshara, Un'Goro Crater and the Eastern Plaguelands.

The leather follows the level of what you skin: Light Leather from the lowest beasts, then Medium, Heavy, Thick and finally Rugged Leather from the level 50s. Rugged Leather is what leatherworkers need most of, by a long way, so it is also what sells best.

About this guide

What decides whether you can skin a beast is its level. Up to level 10 anything works; from 11 to 20 you need ten points per level above 10; from 21 up, five points per level, so a level 30 beast needs 150 and a level 60 one needs 300. Skinning a beast you only just can is where the points come fastest. The table below ranks zones by how many skinnable beasts Classic's spawn data puts in each band.

WoW Forever launches on 4 November 2026, so this guide is a work in progress. Skill colours, reagents and craft counts come from the beta client, so they are what Forever ships today but can still change, and the beta stops short of Artisan, so the top of the route is computed rather than played. Craft counts include the extra crafts a recipe needs once it turns yellow. Trainer locations and learn levels are Classic's, adjusted where Forever moved a recipe. We rebuild the guide whenever the client changes.

Where to skin at every skill

The skill a corpse needs comes from its level: up to level 10, any skill works; from 11 to 20, ten points per level above 10; from 21 up, five points per level. So a level 30 beast needs 150 and a level 60 one needs 300. The zones below have the most skinnable beasts in each band, by Classic's spawn data.

Skinning camp objects

Camping is new in Forever: a campfire built by a cook, with room for objects each profession makes. Anyone resting at the camp gets their effects.

  • Camp Chair from skill 20

    2% critical strike chance

  • Field Guide from skill 140

Grants Track Beasts to whoever reads it

  • Trapper's Workbench from skill 300

    Holds one trap

Camp objects

Skinners build a Camp Chair from skill 20, which gives everyone resting at the camp 2% critical strike chance. At 140 they can leave a Field Guide that grants Track Beasts to whoever reads it, and at 300 a Trapper's Workbench, which holds a trap.
