A place that has been standing there for twenty years

Unlike most of the new dungeon list, this one names somewhere players already know. The ruins of Lordaeron's capital have sat above the Undercity entrance in Tirisfal Glades since the game shipped — the courtyard, the collapsed throne room where Arthas killed his father, and a whole city players have walked through as scenery and never entered as content. Turning it into a 15–20 instance is the single most on-the-nose statement of what WoW Forever is for, and it is why this dungeon gets disproportionate attention for something at the bottom of the curve.

Why the level range makes sense

15–20 puts it squarely in the Tirisfal Glades and Silverpine Forest band, which is where the ruins physically sit, so for Horde characters it arrives at exactly the right moment and for Alliance characters it is a trip. Forever is realmless rather than server-based — you pick Normal, PvP or Roleplaying — and on the PvP ruleset a level-18 Alliance character crossing Tirisfal to reach the door is a genuinely different proposition. Sellers price that difference in, and it is worth checking which ruleset a listing is quoting for before you compare two prices.

Six bosses, and the Forsaken taking their city back

The story is the Forsaken reclaiming their capital: the ruins are still thick with Scourge and a necromancer has moved in. The beta shows six bosses — Witherfang, The Baron, Bjork, Rath'mael, Viktor the Vile and The Abandoned — and a separate set of quests for each faction, six for the Horde and four for the Alliance. Those quests are the reason to buy a first clear: Blizzard moved dungeon experience off the monsters and onto the quests, so a run with all of them collected beforehand is worth far more than a rerun. WoW Forever also adds Undead Paladins, and Lordaeron is where that idea comes from; whether the dungeon does anything with it is unconfirmed. Unique boss items here are blue and blueprint recipes drop from bosses, so reruns are for a drop rather than for levels.

Frequently asked questions

What level is Ruins of Lordaeron?

15–20, published by Blizzard. It is the second of the nine new WoW Forever dungeons by level, after Hall of Thanes at 13–18, and the two ranges overlap enough that sellers often chain them.

Is Ruins of Lordaeron the same place as the Undercity entrance?

Yes. The instance door is in the ruins above the Undercity, in Tirisfal Glades: through the front gate, then up the stairs on your left before you reach the keep. The Horde walk to it; the Alliance travel through Hillsbrad and Silverpine to get there.

Who are the bosses in Ruins of Lordaeron?

The beta shows six: Witherfang, The Baron, Bjork, Rath'mael, Viktor the Vile and The Abandoned. What players have seen them drop is in the loot table on this page. It is beta data, so treat it as current rather than final.

Does the dungeon tie into Undead Paladins?

Unconfirmed. Undead Paladins are a confirmed new class/race combination and Lordaeron is the obvious thematic home for them, but Blizzard has not linked the two. We would rather flag that than repeat a guess as a fact.

Is this harder on the PvP ruleset?

The instance is not, but reaching it can be — the ruins sit in Horde territory, so an Alliance run on the PvP ruleset involves a contested trip. Sellers quoting PvP-ruleset runs usually price that in, which is why two listings for the same dungeon can differ.

What does a run cost?

The live spread from verified sellers is shown above this copy rather than written into it, because it moves. At this level band, expect single clears and short chains rather than gear packages.
