New class and race combinations in WoW Forever
Six new combinations, a new race on both factions, and Paladins and Shamans no longer split by faction — two decades of received wisdom about which class fits which race stops being reliable.

What Blizzard has confirmed
WoW Forever adds six class and race combinations that did not exist in Classic: Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest and Human Hunter for the Alliance, and Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin for the Horde. Night Elves and Tauren gain nothing. It also adds a new playable race, the Skyborne, on both factions, starting on Zephras Isle at levels 1–12.
| Race | Classes in WoW Forever | New |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, Warrior | Hunter |
| Dwarf | Hunter, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warrior | Shaman |
| Night Elf | Druid, Hunter, Priest, Rogue, Warrior | — |
| Gnome | Mage, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, Warrior | Priest |
| Skyborne (Alliance) | Druid, Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Warrior | New race |
| Orc | Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior | Mage |
| Undead | Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock, Warrior | Paladin |
| Tauren | Druid, Hunter, Shaman, Warrior | — |
| Troll | Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior | Warlock |
| Skyborne (Horde) | Druid, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman, Warrior | New race |
Two of those six do more than add an option. A Dwarf Shaman puts Shamans on the Alliance and an Undead Paladin puts Paladins on the Horde, which ends the oldest faction split in the game: every class is now available to both sides. Shamanism among dwarves is a Wildhammer thread the game gestured at for years without making playable, and Undead Paladins invert the Silver Hand's founding story, which began in the kingdom whose ruins Forever turns into a 15–20 dungeon.
The Skyborne split by faction. The Alliance Skyborne, the High Order, can be Mages; the Horde Skyborne, the Windshapers, can be Shamans; both can be Warriors, Hunters, Rogues and Druids. The race is not part of the subscription — playing one needs at least the $29.99 Skyborne Heroic Pack.
Why this decision matters more in Forever
In a game with an expansion treadmill, an early class choice is recoverable — you outgrow the content where it mattered. WoW Forever caps at 60 permanently, has no level scaling, and does not have another expansion coming to reset the balance. The class you pick is the class you play, and the climb to 60 is real time rather than a formality.
That is why an hour of class planning is the highest-leverage purchase on a marketplace full of services that take weeks to deliver. It is also why the received wisdom is dangerous right now: twenty years of Classic class discussion assumes a race and class list that Forever has changed.
How to decide without guessing
Two questions do most of the work, and neither of them is 'which class is best'. The first is how many evenings a week you actually have, because that decides whether a class that levels slowly and ends strong is a good trade for you. The second is whether the 9 December 2026 raid opening matters to you, because raid demand for roles is not evenly distributed and tanks and healers are booked differently from damage.
- Decide the ruleset first — Normal, PvP or Roleplaying — because it changes how a class levels more than the class does
- Decide the role you want at 60, not the one that levels fastest
- Check the combination you want against the table above rather than against memory; the Classic list no longer applies
- If you are buying a leveling service anyway, plan before you buy it rather than after
What this means for buying a leveling service
If you are paying someone else to do the climb, the class decision is the one part you cannot outsource — and it is the part that determines whether the money was well spent. A seller will level whatever you hand them. They will not tell you that the race you picked needs a paid pack, or that the role you want is oversubscribed for raid invitations in December.
The practical sequence is therefore planning first, levelling second. An hour of class coaching costs a fraction of a 1–60 order and is the only purchase on this site that can prevent the larger one being wasted. It is also the only one where the value survives a balance patch, because what you buy is a decision rather than a character state.
One more thing worth saying to a seller when you book: the race, not just the class. Racial abilities differ, faction access differs, and with the Skyborne starting on Zephras Isle at 1–12 rather than in a traditional starting zone, the opening bracket of the route is not interchangeable between races.
Frequently asked questions
Are Dwarf Shamans in WoW Forever?
Yes. Dwarf Shaman is one of the six new combinations, and it is the one that brings Shamans to the Alliance.
Are Undead Paladins in WoW Forever?
Yes, and they bring Paladins to the Horde. Whether the game does anything with the obvious Lordaeron connection has not been announced.
What are the new class and race combinations in WoW Forever?
Six: Dwarf Shaman, Gnome Priest and Human Hunter on the Alliance, and Orc Mage, Troll Warlock and Undead Paladin on the Horde. Night Elves and Tauren get no new class.
What is the new race in WoW Forever?
The Skyborne, who start on Zephras Isle at levels 1–12 and can join either faction. They can be Warriors, Hunters, Rogues and Druids, plus Mages on the Alliance and Shamans on the Horde. The race requires an upgrade pack.
Can the Horde play Paladins and the Alliance play Shamans?
Yes. Undead can be Paladins and Dwarves can be Shamans, and Horde Skyborne can be Shamans too, so both classes are on both factions for the first time.
Does class choice matter more in WoW Forever?
More than in a modern expansion. The cap is 60 and permanent, there is no level scaling, and nothing later resets the balance, so an early choice follows you.
