Hunters gear around one slot: the ranged weapon. Almost every hunter ability fires the weapon, so its damage per second and speed decide more than any armour piece. Melee weapons matter mostly for the stats they carry.
The three specs want the same stats in close to the same order. Agility is the core stat for all of them. What changes is how much each spec gets out of it and what it relies on beyond your own gear.

Questions
Does a hunter's gear make the pet stronger?
Not under Classic rules: pets did not inherit hunter stats. Forever has not said whether that changes.
What is the most important hunter slot?
The ranged weapon. Almost every hunter ability uses its damage, so a better bow, gun or crossbow outranks any armour upgrade.
Is there a Hunter BiS list for WoW Forever yet?
No. Raid loot is published with the raids on 9 December 2026 and the level 55–60 dungeon tables are not in the beta. Each spec page carries its stat priority now and gains its item list as each phase is datamined.
What armour and weapons can a Hunter use?
