How buying works
- Step 1
Choose an offer
Compare verified sellers on price, rate and delivery window. Every seller here was approved by staff before they could list.
- Step 2
Pay into escrow
Card, handled by Stripe. The money is held by us — the seller can see the order is funded and nothing more.
- Step 3
Get it, then release
Talk to the seller in your order thread. Nothing reaches them until you confirm the work is done.
Cloth comes from mobs, not from nodes
Tailoring's raw material drops off humanoids rather than growing in the world, which means there is no gathering profession to pair it with and no reason to burn a second slot. In practice that makes tailoring the profession most often taken alongside enchanting — the cloth items you craft while levelling get disenchanted rather than vendored — and the one whose cost is most exposed to whatever cloth is going for at auction that week. A quote given three weeks before launch and honoured after it can be a materially different piece of work.
What you get at 300
Cloth armour for casters, bags, and the best-established crafting-to-auction pipeline of any profession, because bags sell continuously to everyone regardless of class or level. Tailoring is the profession where the argument for buying the boost is most obviously financial: the skill starts paying from the day it lands, which is unusual. Forever's optional transmog system points the same direction, though Blizzard has not published anything specific about crafted gear and transmog.
Booking it sensibly
Two things to settle. Whether the seller is supplying cloth or you are, because with no gathering partner this is entirely an auction-house cost and the two versions of the order are priced completely differently. And whether you want the cloth items that get produced along the way or whether they can be disenchanted or vendored — a tailoring route generates a pile of intermediate gear, and who ends up with it is worth deciding before rather than after. As always, escrow holds until you confirm the skill actually landed.
Where the specialisations are not
Unlike blacksmithing, engineering and leatherworking, Classic tailoring has no specialisation split, which removes the single most common way a profession boost goes wrong. There is no irreversible choice for a seller to get wrong halfway through and nothing to specify in the order thread beyond the skill target and who supplies the cloth. It is, for that reason, the lowest-risk crafting order on this page.

Frequently asked questions
Does tailoring need a gathering profession?
No. Cloth drops from humanoid mobs rather than from gathering nodes, so tailoring is the one crafting profession that leaves your second slot free — which is why it pairs so often with enchanting.
Is tailoring good for making gold?
It has the steadiest crafting-to-auction pipeline in the game, largely because bags sell continuously to every class and level. It is the profession where buying the boost most obviously pays for itself.
What happens to the gear crafted while levelling?
Decide before you order. A tailoring route produces a pile of intermediate items that can be disenchanted, vendored or mailed to you, and sellers assume different defaults.
Why do tailoring quotes move so much?
Because the entire materials cost is auction-house cloth with no gathering alternative. A price quoted weeks before launch can mean a different amount of money after it.
Should I take enchanting with it?
It is the classic pairing: craft cloth items while levelling tailoring, disenchant them to level enchanting. Slower than levelling either alone, cheaper than levelling enchanting on bought materials.
