A Maraudon purple boost covers Lord Vyletongue's half of the Desolace caverns — the longer coloured wing, and the one that carries most of the pre-Princess content.

Purple is the longer of Maraudon's two coloured wings and holds more of the instance's content before the shared lower caverns. It is the side people mean when they say Maraudon is long, and the side where a group without a route makes the most wrong turns. Buying it as a wing rather than as part of a full clear is the cheaper way to get at what is in it, provided this half is genuinely what you need.
Orange is quicker and is usually bought for a specific objective. Purple carries more general value and is more often bought for gear, which means rerun chains show up here and rarely on the orange side. If a listing is quoting multiple runs, it is almost certainly this wing or the Princess route — ask which, because the two have very different run lengths and the count means different things.
At 40–49 this sits alongside Zul'Farrak in Tanaris and the new Krol'dok Stronghold at 40–45. A seller routing the 40–50 leveling bracket will usually thread two or three of these together, which is materially better value than booking them one at a time. Ask what the bracket includes before buying wings individually.
Because purple is the longer wing, a chain order here adds up faster than it does anywhere else in Maraudon — three runs is most of an evening. Agree the count and agree the start time rather than the day, because a long wing that begins two hours late ends somewhere you did not plan to be. The Princess route is the better structure if a specific drop rather than the wing is what you actually want.
Game facts on this page checked against Blizzard's published details as of 30 September 2026.
Yes, noticeably. It holds more of the instance's content before the shared lower caverns and is where groups most often take wrong turns.
Purple, generally. Orange tends to be bought for a specific objective, while purple carries more general value, which is why rerun chains appear here.
Usually. A seller routing 40–50 threads several of these instances together, which is better value than booking wings one at a time.
40–49 in Classic, as with the rest of the instance. Forever's retuning is unconfirmed.
